THIS WEEK WAS THE BOMB!! seriously though. So last week we got to go to the Market on Tuesday. It was the best thing ever. The people are so cute, and so humble. I literally cant wait to get out there with them. We also got to go to the temple last week on Tuesday after the market. The Temple is the best! I love it every time we go! What a HUGE blessing in our lives. So Thursday was a rough day. Hermana Newman and I got asked to talk with one of our teachers. We were like "I wonder what he wants?" so we go talk to him...like 40 minutes later we come out feeling like complete failures. hahaha We went to the bathroom and cried together before dinner...let me just say how grateful I am that I've got her. She is the best thing that ever happened to me here in Guat...well one of the best! Anyways, he told us that we need to do everything different when we teach basically. He told us when we taught in English he felt the spirit, but once we switched to Spanish..nothing. WE were like WELL DUH. We don't know Spanish. So we had been writing out our whole lessons in Spanish because we felt like we had to. Anyways, so the next day we decided we had to change things. We decided to get rid of our notes. We learned so many lessons from this. First, we know nothing. Which is why it is a good thing we don't have to do this alone and that the spirit is here with us all day. We learned that we have to rely COMPLETELY on the spirit. Especially while teaching. Third we learned that we aren't even teachers. The spirit is the teacher. WE are the guides. WE have to guide the investigators to find out for themselves that this amazing gospel is true. So we have been focusing a lot on inspired questions. Which are the best things ever. We learned we have to rely on the spirit more than anything, especially with the language. So the day after our melt downs...we taught again...a different teacher/fake investigator....IT WAS SO GOOD. Best thing ever. I could speak Spanish...the gift of tongues is real. I could understand everything, and I could say what I wanted to say. It was amazing. Such a neat experience. Rather than getting nervous to teach....which is the opposite of faith...I KNOW the Spirit will guide...I get so excited to teach. We committed our investigator to go to church Sunday...and TO BE BAPTIZED. We talked to the teacher...who is the one who played our investigator and he said it was such a great spiritual lesson. He said we are the only ones so far that he had committed to being baptized. Anyways, I love everything about being here. I realize everyday why I am here now rather than in May. My teachers, my district, my companion, the Hermanas. There's like 15 Norte Hermanas here and like 20 Latina Hermanas..I LOVE THEM ALL! We are allll such good friends....I love it here! The Elders are all great too! We are just such good friends it makes it fun to be here.
K I have like 39 emails...WHAT!? You guys are all the best....So I'm going to have to make this one kinda short! But I love you guys!! P.S. I need addresses for people...Cause writing letters is way easier. I will send another soon with more details!!
LA IGLESIA ES VERDADERA!! Love, Hermana Oliphant
THIS IS AN ADDITIONAL EMAIL SHE SENT ABOUT 15 MINUTES LATER:
So I left out a lot from this week to respond to all 39 emails...or try to at least. Sundays here are the best. No I didn't have to speak this week!! Thank goodness. Hna Feik did.. one of my good friends here...hahahha suckerr! We watched Joseph Smith the Restoration...Best movie.. We watched a movie about the SL Temple being built..we had a health fireside and Presidente Nicolaysen gave us a fireside on the ATONEMENT! Best fireside of my life. Some funny moments of the
week...I asked Hna Newman if she wanted a root beer barrel as we were leaving the bathroom. Which are almost gone...hahaha. I am so grateful to have them here though...They save me. Give me some sugar and some yummy...anyways so after I said that Hna Breshears dies laughing.....I was like what in the world!? She goes "Did you just ask her if she pooped?" hahahaha we laughed for a good solid 10 minutes. Umm, Breshears, Feik, Newman and I have a plan for the 1 Hermana that
is coming...we heard there is only going to be 1 Hermana and 11 elders....all Nortes here over Christmas. Weird....So next week its just going to be like us 38 missionaries that came on the 29 of October...anyways, we heard that...might not be true...So we keep coming up with all these funny things to have her to for
"initiation..." not even really but we laugh about it a lot. It would be hilarious to do. We laugh about everything here. We sing Disney songs in the showers at night together, OH BEST THING EVER!! The elders formed a group called the EFP...the Established Flirt Patrol..cause you aren't supposed to flirt with the opposite gendera as a missionary....so we think it a bunch of bologna...this group they have so we formed our own group as hermanas...LYH....Lock Your Heart!
Its such a funny joke we've got going!!! I LOVE BEING HERE! Everything that happens makes me more grateful that I am here and get to be here for 17 more months! I can't believe 1 month is already gone almost.
But for reals though...missionary life is the life for me!!

Oh I forgot to tell you...Newman and I got calling this past week. Newman is the Hermana Leader...so basically the district leader but just for the Hermanas....so she makes sure everyone is healthy and happy..I am the music coordinator. I pick hymns, find musical numbers, find piano players and hymn conductors! Easy peasy, but a good one!!
